Due to being a newly popular drug, they are not well regulated even though they emulate the effects of illegal drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people ask \u201cIs Spice addictive?\u201d the resounding answer should be yes. The drug is extremely potent and&nbsp;Spice addiction&nbsp;is quite common among young adults and teenagers. According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/15\/nyregion\/k2-overdose-spike-in-new-york-at-least-130-cases-this-week-alone.html?ribbon-ad-idx=4&amp;rref=nyregion&amp;_r=1\">a New York Times article<\/a>, a one-week stretch in 2016 in the state resulted in 130 overdoses on K2.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/mm6422a5.htm?s_cid=mm6422a5_w\">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>&nbsp;reported that from January to May of 2015 there were 15 deaths related to Spice misuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legal status of the drug is often discussed and mistaken. While some people call it \u201clegal weed,\u201d the drug, on its own, is not approved by the Drug Enforcement Administration. However, variations of the drug have been produced that are legal, which makes this particular substance a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/news_and_politics\/crime\/2016\/02\/synthetic_marijuana_is_a_weird_and_confusing_drug_here_s_what_you_need_to.html\">special case from a legal standpoint<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spice addiction can consume a person\u2019s daily routine, but deaths due to overdose show misuse of the drug can also end people\u2019s lives. Spice and synthetic marijuana blends are referred to by a &nbsp;variety of names, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"is-style-columns-3\"><li>Black Mamba<\/li><li>Blaze<\/li><li>Bliss<\/li><li>Bombay blue<\/li><li>Genie<\/li><li>Joker<\/li><li>Kronic<\/li><li>Legal cannabis<\/li><li>Marinol<\/li><li>Mary Mack<\/li><li>Moon rocks<\/li><li>Red X Dawn<\/li><li>Solar flare<\/li><li>Skunk<\/li><li>Yucatan fire<\/li><li>Zohai<\/li><li>2K11<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Spice continues to evolve and new chemicals are added and tinkered with to produce new variations of the drug. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/ondcp\/ondcp-fact-sheets\/synthetic-drugs-k2-spice-bath-salts\">Office of the National Drug Control Policy<\/a>&nbsp;reported that 51 new synthetic cannabinoids were recognized in 2012, and in the last six years even more have been introduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><a>What is Spice\/K2 Made Of?<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Spice includes many ingredients, some natural and some scientifically produced. The natural ingredient is dried and shredded plants or herbs, but nothing else is. The synthetic chemical pairs with the natural plant to create the cannabinoid drug. One of the significant challenges with Spice\/K2 is that there is not one compound mixture that is K2, Spice or any of its other various names. Since there are so many variations and formulas, identifying the drug is challenging and can be equally difficult to properly treat for addiction. According to the NIDA for Teens, Spice can be very addictive and causes people to experience signs of withdrawal if they abruptly stop taking the drug or attempt to reduce the frequency or dosage on their own. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that three deaths in Illinois are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/wireStory\/fake-pot-tainted-rat-poison-kills-sickens-100-54373781\">due to taking synthetic marijuana<\/a>&nbsp;that included rat poison. Similar lethal ingredients could be hidden amid other chemicals and the natural cannabis that makes up the drug.
